Overview

The 50NC tube bender is an NC hydraulic machine rated Φ50.8 × 2 mm in mild steel and Φ35 × 2.2 mm in stainless, bending at 40°/s on a 2250 mm mandrel with a 200 mm maximum bend radius.

Φ50.8 mm is two inches, which is why this model turns up so often in handrail, balustrade and light structural work. Angle repeatability is ±0.1°; what varies across a batch is feed length and rotation, since the operator sets those by hand. That is exactly the difference a CNC machine removes — and exactly why an NC bender costs less.

The maximum tube outside diameter in millimetres, rounded. The exact rating is Φ50.8 × 2.0 mm in carbon steel — Φ50.8 mm being two inches, which is why the number is not a round 50. Stainless capacity is Φ35 × 2.2 mm.

No. A mandrel supports the tube bore and stops the outside wall collapsing, and you need it when the radius is tight relative to the diameter or the wall is thin. On generous radii with reasonable wall, a wiper die and correct pressure die setting are often enough. Maximum mandrel length here is 2250 mm.

Maximum bend radius is 200 mm on the standard machine. The minimum is set by the tooling and the tube — as the centre-line radius approaches the tube diameter, wall thinning on the outside and wrinkling on the inside become the limiting factors, not the machine.

Less than people expect. The angle is set digitally and stopped automatically, so the repeatable part is handled by the machine. What the operator controls is feed length and rotation between bends, which on a marked-up tube is straightforward. Most operators are productive within a shift.

Yes, that is one of its common uses. Handrail is typically Φ38–Φ50 mm tube in mild or stainless steel with generous radii, well inside this machine's range. For long sweeping curves rather than discrete bends, a pipe rolling machine is the better tool.
