Overview

The 38NC tube bender is an NC hydraulic machine for tube up to Φ38.1 × 2 mm in mild steel, or Φ31.75 × 1.5 mm in stainless. A 4 kW hydraulic unit drives the bend arm; the operator feeds and rotates the tube between bends, and the angle is set digitally and stopped automatically.

At 74°/s this is the fastest head in the NC range. Bend die, clamp die, pressure die, wiper die and mandrel are matched to your tube and centre-line radius — a bender without the right dies cannot make your part, whatever its rating says.

38NC NC Semi-Automatic Tube Bender — Common Questions

An NC bender controls the bend angle digitally but the operator feeds and rotates the tube by hand between bends. A CNC bender drives feed and rotation with servos from a stored program. For single-bend parts and short runs the NC is faster to set up and considerably cheaper; once a part needs several bends at different planes in sequence, the CNC pays back.

There is no fixed lower limit on the machine itself — the limit is the tooling. The 38NC is rated to Φ38.1 × 2.0 mm in carbon steel at the top end, and below that the practical floor is set by how small a bend die and clamp die can be made for your radius. Send the tube size and radius and we confirm.

Stainless work-hardens and needs far more bending force for the same section, so the 38NC is rated Φ38.1 × 2.0 mm in mild steel but Φ31.75 × 1.5 mm in stainless. Quoting the material with the tube size matters — a machine sized on carbon steel figures will stall on stainless.

Yes, with matched tooling. Square and rectangular section needs its own bend die, clamp die and pressure die profile, and the achievable radius is usually larger than for round tube of the same size because the flat faces buckle more readily.

As many as the tube length and the mandrel allow. Maximum mandrel length is 1850 mm on this model, and each bend is set individually by the operator, so multi-bend parts are possible but slower than on a CNC where the sequence is stored and repeated automatically.

185 degrees. The extra five degrees past 180 exist for springback: you overbend slightly, the tube relaxes back, and the finished angle lands where you wanted it.
